In February, the Church released the General Handbook: Serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The General Handbook replaces Handbook 1 and Handbook 2, which formerly had guided leaders and officers in administrative matters.

Two key elements of the new General Handbook include:

• Continuing an emphasis on helping all come unto Christ.

• Organizing content around Heavenly Father’s work of salvation and exaltation.

The Twenty Sixth Ward Council had decided last year to use the five components of the “work of salvation in the ward” as the basis for sacrament meeting monthly themes. These were taken from Handbook 2.

The General Handbook presents these components in a slightly different way. Two of the five components are consolidated, and all are reworded. The four pillars of the work of salvation and exaltation are:

• Living the gospel of Jesus Christ.

• Caring for those in need.

• Inviting all to receive the gospel.

• Uniting families for eternity.

The principles are eternal, and we look forward to hearing from members speaking on these topics during sacrament meetings. More importantly, we look forward to learning how to put these principles into practice every day so that we can participate in God’s work of salvation and exaltation.
